Lenses are made from glass, plastic, or etc but due to the electric property inside, all rays can't be transmitted into and the part of it would be reflected. So, in order to increase the transmittance of lens, it must be coated by thin films of dielectric materials (non-conducting substrates). We call this AR coating (Anti-reflective coating)
